Do You Have The Faith?

Pour Out Your Life

Items Needed

  • 2 clear, two-liter empty soda bottles
  • Water
  • 10- to 12-inch piece of duct tape
  • Green food dye

Instructions: Share this devotional with a group of other kids, such as your friends at school. Before the meeting, find two identical plastic soda bottles. Soak them in hot water and then remove the wrappers from the container. Fill one bottle about three-fourths full of tap water, and secure the lid on it.

Spiritual Application to Read: Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)

Begin the devotional by reading the above Scripture passage. At the conclusion of this High Octane devotional, read the passage again. This time, encourage the other kids to become E-LIFE Kids for BGMC. Challenge them to tell other friends and students at school and in the community about Jesus. Also challenge them to invest in the lives of those they are witnesses to by befriending them.

Share This With The Group:

When I say the word "invest," what do you think of? (Wait for response.) When someone invests money in the bank, that means the person puts his money there so it can grow. If you want to invest in something like a sport you like, then you put your time and energy into doing your best at that sport.

(Display the bottle) See this bottle? I've "invested" into it by placing water in it. Now I'm going to add some green food dye to it. Green can represent things that are alive and growing, like plants. (Add green food dye to bottle.) Now I'm going to place another empty soda bottle on top of the bottle of water (position the empty bottle on top of the bottle of water so the mouths of both bottles join) and tape the two together. (Securely place the two bottle openings together, making sure no gaps are formed between the two. Tape the two bottles together with duct tape, making sure it has a tight seal.)

Now watch as I flip the bottles and swirl the water inside. (Quickly flip the two bottles so the bottle with water is on top. Then quickly begin to swirl the bottles clockwise in a circular pattern. As the water empties from the top bottle into the bottom one, a funnel will begin to form-if done correctly-inside the top bottle of water as it empties out.)

See the funnel forming inside the bottle? Now let me put a spiritual "twist" to this lesson: If you give yourself completely to Jesus, He will stir your heart so much you just want to tell everyone about Jesus. Just like the funnel inside this bottle, which looks like a tornado, your energy for Jesus can be used to invest time and energy into the lives of other friends and kids at school. Just like these two bottles became one and the stuff inside one was poured into the other, think about this: You can pour your life, everything you know and understand about Jesus, into the lives of other kids at schools and in your neighborhoods. And by doing so, they can become as one in Christ Jesus. By doing so, they can learn about Jesus like you did.
