BGMC - Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge

Just Fill It

"Pop Out! for Missions"

Hey, kids! Here's a great way for you to raise BGMC bucks that's way cool. It's called  Pop Out for Missions.

Did you know that one-third of the kids in the world don't have enough food to eat or clean water to drink? Those kids couldn't imagine having the luxury of soda to drink. This is another reason why our November BGMC missionary challenge is to "Pop Out for Missions."

We here at the national BGMC office are challenging kids everywhere to give up soda pop (or something else) during the month of November. The money you would spend on soda would then be given to BGMC, which helps needy children around the world. Here's how it works:

Make a pledge to give up soda for one, two, or three weeks, ending on Thanksgiving Day. On that day, you can drink soda again. Then on Thanksgiving Day, you should remember to be thankful for your own blessings and remember the kids around the world who aren't as fortunate as you are.

Begin this challenge by taking pledges from your parents. Parents are encouraged not to purchase soda when the fam is at restaurants or at the grocery store. Parents then add up the savings from their household budgets and pledge that dollar amount toward your Pop Out Challenge. Pretty cool, huh? (See the downloadable "Pop Out! Faith Promise" form below.)

You can also get pledges from Grandma and Grandpa, aunts, uncles, friends, teachers, and church-goers in an attempt to raise as many dollars as possible by "Popping Out for Missions!"

If you don't drink soda, you could give up your specialty sport drinks, candy, or whatever you really enjoy. See if you can raise more pledges than the other kids in your church. Even challenge the kids in your school to "Pop Out for Missions."

BGMC provides FREE resources for this fund-raising challenge. Ask your children's pastor or parents to order the following. We provide 11 by 17-inch Pop Out posters to display in classrooms and around the church (item # 715-163), Pop Out flyers to send home with the kids (item # 715-164), and Pop Out can labels to put on soda cans (item # 715-165). Please note: The can labels come two per sheet. If you need 20 labels, order 10 sheets.

We suggest that on the Sunday your kids' pastor launches the campaign that you and all the other kids participating will each get a can of soda with the Pop Out label on the can. You will be challenged to make that your last soda until the campaign is over on Thanksgiving Day.

You can do this very thing at home with your parents. Once you finish drinking the soda can, the empty soda can could be used as an offering bank. Go door to door in your neighborhood (make sure an adult goes with you) and collect money for BGMC. Be sure to tell everyone you're collecting money for needy kids around the world and how you're pledging to do without soda yourself.

Your kids' pastor or parent can order all of these free resources by contacting GPH at 1-800-641-4310. These resources CANNOT be ordered on the GPH Web site. You have to call to order.

If November isn't a good month to do this challenge, then pick another time to do it. The posters and can labels don't have a month on them so you can use those any time of the year.

Remember, BGMC funds help our missionaries to meet the physical and spiritual needs of people around the world by supplying them with whatever they need to spread the gospel message. Thanks for participating in this event to help reach the people of the world!
