There are lots of downloads below for your BGMCKids binder.

Dunia (doo-nee-a)

Buenos dias! Good day! Welcome to Dunia's home in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. She lives in a little brick house with her parents, brother Alberto, three sisters, and a grandmother. San Pedro Sula is a big city with nearly a million people, tucked in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. Dunia's father drives a city bus. Her mother has just gotten a job at a clothing factory. Grandmother watches the littlest girls and runs a little pulperia (a small shop) at the house. Dunia and her brother Alberto go to school.

School Time

Dunia and Alberto put on their school uniforms and gather their books for the walk to school. In Honduras, the school year starts in February and ends in October. Lessons are taught in Spanish. Not many kids go to preschool or kindergarten. Most kids begin primary school when they are seven years old, and they are supposed to go for six years. However, many children in the countryside or from poorer families in the cities must quit school early to help earn money. Dunia is glad her parents can afford to send them. She loves science and nature, and already she is thinking of studying forestry at a university.
